We are very happy to welcome you to the International Symposium "New Horizons in Molecular Sciences and Systems: An Integrated Approach" to be held in Okinawa, Japan, October 16 to 18, 2003. This symposium has been planned in coordination with the efforts of Japanese government to establish a "world top class' graduate university in Okinawa to reform Japanese science as well as to promote collaboration in science with Asia and the world.
This symposium will cover three topic areas, namely "Bioscience and Biotechnology Frontiers"; "Information Sciences and Computing" and "Nanosciences and Nanoengineering". The purpose of this symposium is to bring people with different expertise to discuss how the integration of these three areas can accelerate rapid advances in understanding natural principles from the molecular to the system level and in applying that knowledge to emerging issues of worldwide importance.
With the help of prominent international advisors, we have invited four outstanding keynote speakers representing broader perspectives of the three topic areas and academia-industry collaboration. They will address the issue of integrated approaches in science and technology from their own standpoint. In addition, the Symposium will include approximately 30 invited talks by distinguished researchers, and many poster presentations of exciting results and promising approaches in the three topic areas.
We hope to make this symposium a landmark in the formation of a new paradigm of integrated approaches in science and technology. To that end, we would like to encourage many submissions of top-quality research for the poster sessions. Some limited funds may be available for poster presenters' travel support; please consult the Secretariat for details. We hope to see you at this exciting symposium in Okinawa.
